HOW DOES THE OCP SHAPE OUR CITY?

The OCP articulates an evolving vision for New Westminster and informs the regulatory framework that guides our growth toward that goal. It outlines policies on housing, parks and recreation, culture, heritage, energy, utility services, transportation, well-being, hazards, economy and environment. The OCP also includes a Land Use Designation Map indicating designations that determine future development and re-development plans within the City.

The draft Official Community Plan is here! The Plan provides a renewed vision to the year 2041 and the framework to guide the future growth toward achieving the vision.

In addition to providing feedback on the draft Project Aspirations, many participants shared comments related to the design of the new school, and some expressed an interest in providing input on the design in the future. We understand and appreciate all feedback, and will explore opportunities to incorporate design input into our consultation plan moving forward. Queen’s Park Neighbourhood Conservation Area Survey

The Queen’s Park neighbourhood is exploring becoming New Westminster’s first Heritage Conservation Area. This could include a new requirement for Council approval for certain types of changes to existing buildings and landscaping, as well as mandatory design guidelines for new development. The basic principles for these policies were established through the Neighbourhood Heritage Study (2013-2015) and the recent public open houses.
